General

Why are signs important?

Business signs are an incredibly important part of building your brand awareness and being seen by your audience for all the right reasons. Having a sign on the side of your building not only communicates who you are, but it also shows your values and standards. Your audience will form an opinion of your business before they even step foot in the door.

If you have a quality made sign that looks professional, your customers will know that they are going to get an excellent service or product from you. If your sign is falling apart or looks shabby, you might lose custom because customers have formed a bad opinion of your business.

Taking the time to make the right first impressions is vital.

What sign do I need for my business?

We can create a variety of signs, however the sign that is right for your business all depends on your business premises and area where we can install the sign.

If unsure of what you require, a member of the Impact Sales team can come to see you to advise/conduct a site survey.

Why should I work with Impact Signs?

We have been established in Aylesbury so with over 100 years combined experience; in a nutshell, we know our stuff!

We have an excellent reputation for our expert craftmanship, product knowledge and customer service.

What other services do you provide?

We do more than just signs! From engraving, vehicle graphics, branded clothing, exhibition graphics to business cards and promotional items, we offer a host of products that help you to promote your company and get you seen by your ideal audience.

Take a look around our website to get an idea of the choice or contact us to give you some inspiration.

What signs can you create?

We design, create and install a range of signs, including external fascia (the sign that goes on the front of your building), post mounted signs, anti-vandal signs, pavement signs, illuminated signs, internal signs, wall graphics and branded wallpaper to name but a few!

We offer a huge variety, and together we can find the best ones that suits you and your business.

Can you make a custom sign?

All our signs are bespoke made to suit your requirements, size, design, material etc. All we would need to do is speak to you about what you are looking for so we can quote appropriately.

Do you offer a design service?

We certainly can. We have a fantastic inhouse designer who can work her magic for you. However, the design will only be as good as the brief that you provide us with. Giving us a clear brief with detailed specifications of what is required will help us achieve the right result first time.

We would discuss your requirements and work out the most cost effective way to give you stunning designs.

Can you create a logo for me?

Yes, we can produce a logo for you. We would need to know a few things though:

  1. The name
  2. If there is a particular font you would like to use
  3. Colours
  4. Have you seen anything you like the look of?
  5. What do you plan to use it on?

The reason we ask the final question is so we can get an idea of how you'd be using the logo  e.g. would it be going onto a variety of different items and materials. If you wanted to use your logo on signs, t-shirts and business cards, we would need to ensure that the design and detailing would work across the three items for each of their different manufacturing processes.

Can I use copyrighted images?

No. You cannot publish copyrighted images without consent or a valid license. If you want to use an image that's copyrighted, you must either get permission from the owner of obtain a license.

Ideally you should use images that belong to you and are to do with your business. This will help to better promote your company and what you do.

How much do signs/graphics cost?

This is a how long is a piece of string question. It all depends on what type of sign you’d like, what material you are looking for, size, the design you’d like on it etc. There are many variables to take into consideration.

What your normal lead times?

Every sign is different, but we are quick!

A full fascia sign re-fit may take up to two weeks. Whereas site boards, garments, plaques, banners etc, are approx 3-5 working days; however in some cases, can be same/next day.

How much do you charge for delivery?

We use FedEx for most deliveries. The standard rate is £9.60 + VAT. However, large or heavy parcels will cost extra but you will be advised of this charge within your quotation. For some products, we would deliver via our own Transport.

Do I get to see a proof?

You will always receive a proof if we are producing the artwork for you. We will never go ahead with the work unless you are 100% happy with the artwork/design proof.

Do you come to site to see what I need?

Yes, we can do this. It will give us the opportunity to meet you and hear more about your project. It will help us to get an idea of what is possible for you and also give you some ideas which you may never have thought of!

Can I see the material you will be using beforehand?

Yes, we can show you a sample or swatch of material to help you get an idea of the quality of material that we use.

My artwork files are too big to send to you, can you help?

We would recommend using WeTransfer (its free!) to send any large files.

Can you colour match exactly?

It is important we make you aware that we can’t guarantee the colour we print will match the original. We will do our utmost to match the colours as accurately as possible, but we may not be able to get the exact colour you want.

We offer a bespoke service that matches an original colour as close as possible. This service is not offered as standard, as this process takes time, and it does come at a premium cost.

How far will you travel?

We are based in Bucks, but we travel to wherever we are needed as long as we are able.

Do you need planning permission to put up a sign?

This is very much dependent on a number of elements, for example location, how large your sign is, if its illuminated, materials etc.

It would be best to contact your local council first to check if you need to obtain permission.

How can I pay?

We have a variety of ways you can pay:

  • Credit/debit card; details can be taken over the phone (we never store them on our system) or at our trade counter
  • BACS
  • Credit account (this will need to be applied for)

Can you deliver the item?

Yes. We can deliver items to you, or we use a courier (TNT, DPD, DHL, FedEx etc).

When sending an enquiry, please let us know if you would like us to give you a cost for this.

Can I buy items online?

We currently have an online shop which has promotional items, safety signs and Covid related safety products.

We are in the process of updating our website to allow for other products to be purchased online so watch this space!

Can I get a price over the phone?

For some standard items we may be able to give you a cost over the phone. Generally, though we do email a quote so that you have a formal quote in writing.

Do you measure up? Can I do it myself?

We can either come to site to measure up, or we can take the measurements from you. With the latter, the onus is on you to get the detail absolutely correct. We cannot take any responsibility for the final item being the wrong size.

Do you have any accreditations?

We are Trading Standard Approved and hold ISO 9001:2015 accreditation. More details can be found on our guarantee page.

How can I remove vinyl?

Vinyl is removed much more easily when heat is applied. The best tool for this is a hair dryer. Do not use anything with a naked flame especially near the petrol cap on vehicles

No not use any metal objects, the best tool is a plastic scraper.

Use the scraper to ‘pick’ at the vinyl until there is enough to hold onto then pull  s-l-o-w-l-y (whilst hot).

Once all the vinyl is removed, you will need white spirit to remove the glue residue. Apply with a soft cloth. Allow the spirit to soak in for approx 60 seconds and then wipe clean. You may need several cloths for this to avoid ‘spreading the residue’

Fascia/Outdoor Sign

Why does my business need a fascia?

This is the first sign/brand that your customers and potential customers see before they walk through your door.

Your audience will form an opinion of your business before they even step foot in the door, so you want them to get a positive opinion of you the moment they see your sign.

If you have a quality made sign that looks professional, your customers will know that they are going to get an excellent service or product from you. If your sign is falling apart or looks shabby, you might lose custom because customers have formed a bad opinion of your business.

Taking the time to make the right first impressions is vital.

Why should I invest in outdoor signs?

Outdoor signs can be seen by a vast number of people who are driving/walking by your workplace. Signs increase brand awareness, letting customers know you are there and what you have to offer.

I need a new fascia. Can you make a new one and replace the old one?

Yes. We can visit your premises to see what is required and advise on the best material and design. We can also dispose of your old sign.

Do you take the old signs away?

Yes. We will dispose of this safely and securely.

What materials are available?

We work with a wide range of material including Correx, Foamex, Perspex, Alupanel and Aluminium. All are of high quality and look professional, and each has their own benefit depending on what you are looking for.

I’d like individual lettering - can you do this?

Yes, we can! We can produce stylish individual lettering in your font and colours. We can create these in a variety of materials that are either flat cut or built up.

Can I have lights? Can you fit them, or do I need to get an electrician?

Yes. Adding lights to your fascia signs gets your business seen even at night-time! This is a great investment. Our lighting range includes trough downlighting and spot lighting.

We can install these for you, but you will need an electrician to do the final connection and supply you with a certificate.

How long will it take?

Depending on requirements, creating a basic fascia sign will take approximately 5-7 working days. We will always keep you updated on the progress.

What maintenance will it need?

This is very much dependent on the material. Please contact our skilled sales team for more details.

How long will it last?

This is all dependent on the material and what your sign is being used for.

For example, if you are looking for a temporary sign to last a few months, we would recommend using Correx. This will certainly do the job and more. If you are looking for a longer lasting sign, then we would advise using an alternative product that we know will still look professional in years to come.

Please contact our team to discuss your requirements.

I need a temporary sign while you make my new sign – can you help?

Yes! While your main sign is in production, we can produce a PVC banner or Correx sign for a small cost.

Can I install them myself?

This is totally your decision. We can either supply the sign for you to install or our skilled installers can fit it for you.

If you choose to install yourself, once we have handed the sign and fixings to you, we take no responsibility for what happens next!

What is the process for ordering a sign start to finish?

Here’s what happens when we produce a fascia sign for you…

Vehicle Graphics & Wraps

How do I care for my vehicle wrap?

Do's

  • Regularly wash your vehicle to remove dirt, debris, and contaminants that can damage the wrap. Use water with a mild soap (for difficult contaminants, use hot, soapy water) and a soft, clean cloth or sponge (do not use any cloths/brushes that have been used previously as this can transfer dirt/grit and cause damage). Always rinse thoroughly and care for your vehicle graphics as you would any fine paint finish.
  • Test specific cleaning products in an inconspicuous area before use. Isopropanol can be used to remove stubborn marks or adhesive.
  • Wipe off fuel spills immediately and hand wash the affected area with a soft cloth and mild soap to avoid vinyl degradation.
  • Remove salt from the wrap. Much like with paintwork, road salt can cause damage if allowed to build up over time. Ensure regular washing to avoid salt build up, especially during the winter months.
  • Inspect your vehicle regularly to check the wrap for signs of damage, lifting edges, or bubbles. If you should get a rip, cut or tear in your vinyl you should get it fixed as soon as possible to prevent further damage or peeling. New damages are more likely fixable if you get it looked at as soon as you notice it.

Don'ts

  • Do not wash your vehicle for the first week of it being wrapped.
  • Avoid high-pressure washers, steam cleaners or automatic car washes with rotating brushes to prevent lifting the edges of the film.
  • Avoid washing your car in direct sunlight, as it will dry out the soapy water too quickly and can leave ugly spots on your newly cleaned vehicle.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or tools, petroleum based, acidic or strong cleaning agents, caustic cleaners or Ketones such as Acetone or MEK.
  • Avoid using wax or sealants on the wrap as these can create a hazy or dull appearance which reduces the vibrancy of the wrap's colours. If you do want to wax your vehicle, make sure the products you use are free of distillate petroleum.
  • Do not place heavy objects against the wrap, as this can cause creases or damage.
  • Avoid parking under trees as this may damage the vinyl.

Helpful Tips

  • Avoid high temperatures and whenever possible, park the vehicle in shaded areas or in a garage to protect the wrap from excessive heat exposure. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause deterioration to wrapping.
  • Alternate the position of the vehicle when parking to prevent one side from fading faster than the other.
  • If the wrap turns brown, it is due to prolonged exposure to acid from pollutants in the air and may indicate neglect or failure to follow proper cleaning procedures. The affected area may need to be rewrapped. If you notice brown, discoloured, or rust-coloured areas on your wrap, it is best to remove the film from your vehicle to prevent damage to the paint beneath it and reapply fresh wrap. Often, it is only necessary to replace the affected panel.
  • Be mindful of objects or surfaces that could scratch or scrape the vehicle wrap. When loading or unloading items from your vehicle, use caution to prevent any accidental damage.

By following these care tips, you can keep your vehicle wrap looking vibrant and protect it for an extended period. A well-maintained wrap can last for several years, making it a cost-effective and attractive option for vehicle customisation and advertising.
